The German team with Silke Hahlbrock, Maren Hahlbrock & Anke Lukosch came in sixth in the “Women’s Match Racing International Qualifying Regatta” (1st to 5th February 2012) offshore from Miami (USA), in which the last three Olympic tickets in the Match Race class were allocated.
The Match Race Team missed their first chance of winning the German Olympic ticket at the World Championship 2011 in Australia in December last year and were also unfortunately unsuccessful in their second attempt. On the first day, the only German team got off to a good start in the regatta with three victories. However, on the second day, the three sailing girls of the Audi Sailing Team Germany missed the qualification for the semi-final and consequently the final opportunity of securing the German ticket to the Olympics. The team came in sixth with a score of 8:10.
Nine of the twelve Olympic starting places had already been allocated by the time of the WC. Nine teams, who had not been able to secure a starting place so far, competed for the remaining three tickets. Hence the Match Race ladies would have had to achieve the overall third place to have secured the national ranking to represent Germany in the Olympics.
