While the Kieler Fjord on 14/15 January 2012 was awakening anticipation of the coming season due to the beautiful sunshine, topics like press relations, sail manufacturing and materials were on the schedule for the young ONE4ALL sailing talents:

Professional coaches were invited to Kiel to make sure that the ongoing ONE4ALL young sailing lads and lasses only learn their craft from the best. Journalist Ralf Abratis from the “Segler-Zeitung“ trained the crew on the handling of press and media representatives and Sven Krause from Quantum Sails explained how many individual parts are put together to form a complete sail. In the practical part of the workshop, trainer Bernd Meier demonstrated everything worth knowing about the handling of rigging from LIROS, the supplier to the Audi Sailing Team Germany. Splicing, rigging as well as diverse physical questions (“Is it possible to abseil from a balcony on a millimetre thin piece of LIROS rigging?”), the young ONE4ALL aspirants wanted to know. “The aim of the workshop was to sensitise the future crew members to the many facets of offshore sailing”, said Meier. The training weekend received an extremely positive feedback from the young crew and it will most probably be repeated. The topics will then be regatta tactics or safety on board, before the young crew members hit the water for the first recruitment and training units (10/11 March 2012).
